A Boeing 757 jetliner from Hawaii has landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport after the pilot reported engine trouble. Emergency crews were on hand when American Airlines Flight 246 with 147 people – 140 passengers and a crew of seven – touched down without incident at 5:19 a.m. Monday. The flight departed Kona at 8:57 p.m. Hawaii time. Passengers got off the plane at the terminal gate. American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller in Dallas says instruments showed trouble with the left engine about an hour before arrival in Los Angeles and the engine was shut down. He says the aircraft is designed to fly safely on one engine. The cause of the engine problem will be investigated.
